“Clean Seas for Resilient Communities,” Leaving Only Waves Behind
This year’s International Coastal Clean Up was themed “Clean Seas for Resilient Communities,” which focuses on moving beyond trash collection to emphasize source reduction, responsible waste management, and community responsibility.
Continuing its commitment to environmental conservation, Manila Ocean Park once again participated in the International Coastal Cleanup on September 19, 2026 through its Corporate Social Responsibility program, I Love My Ocean Planet. A total of 30 participants from Manila Ocean Park took part in the activity, joining the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), alongside other government agencies, partner organizations, corporations, communities, and volunteers working together toward cleaner seas and more resilient communities.
The activity brought together DENR and its attached agencies, alongside Manila LGU, DILG, DOH NCR, MMDA, private sector partners, civic organizations, and other volunteer groups working together for cleaner seas and stronger communities.
The day began early at 5:00 AM, as participants gathered for registration, briefing, and preparations ahead of the cleanup. By 6:00 AM, the main activity was underway, with volunteers heading to the designated coastal areas to collect waste and help restore the shoreline.
At the Manila Ocean Park site, a total of 385 volunteers helped collect 1,528.64 kilograms of waste, equivalent to 309 sacks.
Beyond removing waste, the activity also served as an opportunity to better understand the kinds of materials that commonly end up along our coasts. Seeing these firsthand reinforces the importance of making more responsible choices at the source from reducing unnecessary waste to practicing proper disposal before it reaches our waterways and seas.
Manila Ocean Park’s commitment to marine conservation goes beyond showcasing the beauty of ocean life within the Park. Through initiatives such as the International Coastal Cleanup, we continue to help raise awareness on the importance of protecting the natural habitats that marine species depend on. We hope that our participation inspires more people to take part in caring for our seas, so future generations can continue to experience and appreciate the richness of marine life.
The future of our oceans is written in the choices we make together today—one small act at a time, shaping cleaner seas and stronger communities for tomorrow.
