Overview

Fancy Rabbits

Fancy Rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus) are domestic breeds, known for their fluffy coats, gentle temperaments, and playful hopping, making them some of the most adored companion animals worldwide.

Habitat

They are domesticated animals that thrive in indoor enclosures or secure outdoor hutches, provided they have enough space to move, play, and explore.

Size

Fancy Rabbits vary by breed, generally weighing between 1 to 4 kilograms, with compact bodies and fluffy coats that make them appear larger.

Offspring

Rabbits give birth in secure burrows or nest boxes, where the mother lines the nest with fur and soft materials. A typical litter contains 4 to 12 kits, born blind and hairless. The mother nurses them once or twice a day, and within 3 to 4 weeks, the young begin eating solid food and exploring outside the nest.

Behavior

Fancy Rabbits are gentle, social, and curious animals that enjoy hopping, exploring, and interacting with their surroundings. They are most active during dawn and dusk, often engaging in playful behaviors such as digging, chewing, and binkying—joyful leaps and twists in the air.

Diet

Primarily herbivorous, they feed mostly on hay and fresh grasses. Their diet is supplemented with leafy greens, vegetables, and specially formulated rabbit pellets.
